What Is It?
Metatarsalgia is foot pain in the ball of your foot, which is the area between your arch and your toes. With this condition one or more of the metatarsal joints become inflamed and become painful. A callus will often develop under the affected joint.
Causes
There are many causes of metatarsalgia including injuries, arthritis, poorly fitting shoes, and working and standing on hard surfaces.
Treatment
Sometimes a change in foot wear will alleviate the problem, but other times relieve may be obtained from custom orthotics. Surgical treatment available depending on severity.
